Congressman Higgins, WTF?

Ok, this will be short and I’m late with this post since the Foley scandal has pushed torture out of the headlines, but Congressman Higgins, WTF on the torture vote????

The Buffalo News gave Murtha the last word, though, thankfully:

“It gives too much leeway to the president,” said Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa. “And I think when you tamper with the Geneva Conventions . . . you hurt our ability to protect the troops.”

And I hope Reynolds goes down on this Foley insanity. Absolutely outrageous. Time will not allow me to blog about it further, however.

Look no further than votes like Higgins’ for reasons why the Democrats are little more respected than Republicans by the pubic in general.

The Dems seem unable to maintain unified opposition on matters of real principle. This vote is one example. The Dems general incoherence on the war in Iraq is another. It isn’t just right-wing spin about the Dems’ opposition being hyper-political and “gotcha” oriented. Opposition is respected the most when it requires courage, and respected the least when it is partisan ankle-biting. There’s way too much petty complaining in the Reid/Pelosi world, and far too little moral courage.

Oddly enough, Hillary Clinton was one of the few who actually took a principled stand on this bill. Her speech recalling George Washington’s position on torture was some of the best oratory I’ve seen in years.

Murtha should have the last word on NOTHING.

Hitlery take a principled stand on NOTHING. her idea of “principle” is whatever is politically expedient that day. Only a fool would miss that.
